My Diets

'My Diets' section demo
My Diets allows students to construct daily diets for themselves or others. Foods can be added quickly and efficiently using intuitive graphical menus or the search facility. The nutritional data for individual foods can be viewed before their item choices are made and recipes can be included in daily diets.

Diets can be analysed in various ways and the results presented graphically. This provides the students with all the information they need to amend and adapt their daily diet until it is ideal for their chosen person.

investigate how much of the energy in the diet comes from carbohydrate, fat and protein

choose any of 40 nutrients and then find out how much of that nutrient was provided by the foods in the student’s selected diet

compare the nutrient values of diets with DRVs based on student’s own age and gender or those of someone else

use the 5 A DAY analysis to indicate all the items in the diet that ‘qualify’ as fruit and veg and shows whether a sufficient quantity was consumed to count towards the person’s 5 A DAY total

see how well the chosen daily diet matches the recommended proportions of the five food groups using the eatwell plate analysis

My Recipes

'My Recipes' section demo
My Recipes allows students to create their own recipes using any of the items in the database. The recipe ingredients are added in a similar way to the way in which foods are added to the My Diets section. Having created a recipe the student is able to view the nutritional information for up to 40 nutrients and see how it contributes towards the 5 A DAY target. They can then edit the recipe and ‘fine tune’ its nutritional value.

My recipes is linked to the labelling section where the students are able to create front and back of pack authentic nutritional labelling for their recipes.

name the recipe and decide how many it will feed

select and add ingredients checking their nutritional suitability

analyse the nutritional information for that recipe:
Big 4 nutrients
Big 4+4
A full listing of all 40 nutrients in the database

use the 5 A DAY analysis to show how a single portion contributes to the 5 A DAY fruit and veg target

edit the recipe to perfection!

Foods

'Foods' section demo
The foods section lets students examine the nutritional information relating to any of the 3400 foods in the database quickly and efficiently. Students use the intuitive pictorial selection facility or type their own search terms into the search box to locate a food they are interested in.

They then examine the nutritional information for up to 40 nutrients and are able to print out the information on that food if they wish.

quick access to all database foods

examine the nutritional information

Labelling

'Labelling' section demo
Labelling allows the students to create realistic packaging for a specific recipe and view in rotatable 3D format. Not only does it allow the students to include all the typical information found on a back of pack nutritional information panel but also lets them choose front of pack information using either the ‘Traffic Light’ or the GDA-based system.

Their packaging can be customised with their own choice of box colour and their own image saved earlier – ideally a photograph of the completed recipe taken by the student themselves. The shape of the box can be altered and the whole creation rotated and viewed in 3D.

fill out the Information screen template for everything which is to appear on the packaging

decide on the front of pack information system GDAs-based or Traffic Light System

view back of pack information in situ

complete front of pack design by selecting background colour and a suitable photograph or image

finalise the box shape

rotate and view the whole package with its labelling in 3D
